Reflection seminar
Here you find instructions for how to prepare for the seminar and the group schedule of the seminar. Before the seminar, you also need to write a reflection document and read and comment on other group members' reflection documents.
The second intended learning outcome of DD2300 is "compare different workplaces and professions relevant to computer scientists". The third intended learning outcome is "reflect in a deeper way over different topics relevant for the professional role, such as channels to find interesting jobs, internationalization, the future for computer science in the working life, multicultural workplaces and ethical responsibility".
Preparations for the reflection
- Make a study visit.
- Investigate, using only public sources, how the company you visited is recruiting computer scientists. Is the company advertising in newspapers? Advertising on its web site? Visiting Armada or D-dagen? In some other way?
- Read the short piece "Has your organisation turned into a monoculture? Links to an external site." by Alf Rehn, Professor of Innovation, Design, and Management at the University of Southern Denmark.
- Watch the short talk "How diversity makes teams more innovative Links to an external site." (10m58s) by Rocío Lorenzo.
- Skim through the "Summary of Population Statistics 1960-2021 Links to an external site." by Statistics Sweden.
- Read the web page defining discrimination Links to an external site. at the web site of the Swedish Equality Ombudsman (DO).
- Look at four short videos about inadequate accessibility Links to an external site. at the same web site (about 5 minutes in total). If you do not understand Swedish, you can turn on the captions.
- Read the Code of Conduct for Students at KTH and the description of the process of disciplinary actions at KTH (can give up to 6 months suspension).
- Read the web page on Women and men in Sweden, facts and figures Links to an external site. from Statistics Sweden (SCB). Then look up some topic in the publication and read the facts and figures about that topic.
- Take the quiz Gender & Diversity Links to an external site. from TU Darmstadt (one or more times). In the quiz, you will be assigned a person and will then decide how that person would answer the questions asked in the quiz. You should therefore start from the person in question, not from yourself when you answer.
- Take the Choice of track quiz to inform the prosamm course coordinator about your choice of track and subtrack. This will only be used to create the prosamm groups for the spring 2023. Do the quiz regardless if you are studying in the first och second year of the master's programme.
If you missed the study visit
If you missed the study visit you will need to do the following extra preparation for the seminar.
- There are several business associations relevant to masters of computer science. Such organizations could either have computer science companies or computer scientists as members. Find one (relevant) business association organizing companies (branschorganisation) and one organizing people. Look up the web sites of these associations and find some information about them. Then use them instead of the company, when you write your reflection. The reflection should be at least 700 words.
Group schedule
Find your group number in the table below and look up when and where your seminar will be. The seminar is about 50 minutes, and it is important to be on time. Notice the odd starting times (10 minutes past)!
