Overview - Control and Decision making

Intended learning outcomes

After successfully completing this module the participant will to be able to

  • Basic knowledge in
    • Modeling and Simulation
    • Control
    • MDPs and POMDPs
    • Reinforcement learning
    • Motion planning
    • Task planning
    • Verification
  • Justify decisions in the design of a solution to a problem related to control and decision-making
  • Hands-on experience of modelling, simulation and control on a physical system
  • Present own work to others

A further goal is that the participant strengthens the network both at the host university and between universities. To achieve this goal, we require that you attend the sessions that are organised. Participation over Skype or similar can be arranged.

Course setup

This module covers the areas roughly defined by control and decision-making. By this we mean everything from building a module of a system, controlling it on a low level and making high level decisions. The module consists of the following elements

  • Self-study material with examination assignments
    • You will be presented with material covering a set of sub-topics.
    • You are expected to study the material and we encourage you to do so in groups
    • The sub-topics are connected to examination assignments that need to be completed before a deadline defined for each assignment.
  • Project carried out in groups or 2 (or 3 people where necessary)
    • You will be working on a project during this module to get a chance to test some of the tools and methods described. The project will be connected to the Crazyflie 2.0 drone from Bitcraze.
    • You will start by doing some experiments to learn about the system
    • You will also work with a simulator and test some controllers
    • You will then gradually extend your system with the aim to be able to fly, aided by position input from a local positioning system (LPS).
  • Local sessions (see schedule below)
    • Here you meet the other students in WASP at your university and help form the network that WASP has as an important objective.
    • Some sessions will be of hands-on nature where we work together. What is done at these sessions is documented so that it can be done on your own as well, but we expect that these sessions will save time for you
    • Some sessions will be to examine work. These are mandatory to attend. If you cannot attend you MUST let the local point of contact know in advance.
  • 2-day session for everyone together

Schedule

The activities in the course will be coordinated across the participating universities. You are expected to participate by visiting the local sessions. Some sessions are mandatory to attend.
