Seminar period 4 2020/2021: Gender equality, diversity and equal opportunities

Reflection seminar in May 2021

Here you find instructions for how to prepare for the seminar and the group schedule of the seminar. Before the seminar, you also need to write a reflection document and read and comment on other group members' reflection documents.

In the period 2 seminar, you read and reflected about mono vs multi cultural workplaces, and in the period 3, you read and reflected about ethical responsibilities. We will end this prosamm year with a topic touching both these topics: Gender equality, diversity and equal opportunities. We suggest that you take a short look back and read your reflection documents from period 2 and 3 before you write your new reflection document.

Preparations for the reflection

• Read the web page defining discrimination Links to an external site. at the web site of the Swedish Equality Ombudsman (DO).
• Look at four short videos about harassment and sexual harassment Links to an external site. at the same web site (about 10 minutes in total). If you do not understand Swedish, you can turn on the captions.
• Look at four short videos about inadequate accessibility Links to an external site. at the same web site (about 5 minutes in total). If you do not understand Swedish, you can turn on the captions.
• Read the Code of Conduct for Students at KTH and the description of the process of disciplinary actions at KTH (can give up to 6 months suspension).
• Read the web page on Women and men in Sweden, facts and figures Links to an external site. from Statistics Sweden (SCB). The look up some topic in the publication and read the facts and figures about that topic. 
• Take a look at the Gender Equality Index Links to an external site. comparing European countries with respect to gender equality.
• Read the article These labs are remarkably diverse - here’s why they’re winning at science Links to an external site. from Nature 2018 about the value of diversity in groups.
• Take the quiz Gender & Diversity Links to an external site. from TU Darmstadt (one or more times). In the quiz, you will be assigned a person and will then decide how that person would answer the questions asked in the quiz. You should therefore start from the person in question, not from yourself when you answer.

Group schedule

The seminar will due to the pandemic be given in Zoom this time. During the seminar, you will need to have the camera on, because you have to take an active role in the discussions, and this is part of the examination of the course.

Find your group number in the table below and look up when and where your seminar will be. The seminar is about 50 minutes, and it is important to be on time. Notice the odd starting times (10 minutes past)!
