When can examination take place?
Examination cannot be scheduled at any time. There are several regulations that affect when the examination can be conducted.
Each course offering has a start date and an end date, which are normally the first and last day of a period. The dates are specified in the course offering information in the course catalog.
Regular examination should be provided between the start and end dates of the course offering . It should therefore be possible for students to complete all examinations, including any examinations of higher grades, by the last week of the course. The grading date for the final examination should be during the course's last week. Conducting the final examination earlier may cause problems for students with their study grants.
According to KTH's guidelines on course syllabuses, grading systems, and examination, complementary examination should be completed within 15 working days after the student has been notified of the (Fx) grade, which means that complementary examination may occur after the end of the course. This naturally also applies to re-examination.
Written exams are traditionally held during the examination week at the end of the study period. Since KTH encourages continuous examination, it is possible to schedule examinations throughout the period(s), as long as the final examination is conducted or has a deadline during the last week of the course.
For reasons of inclusion, both teaching and examination should normally be scheduled Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 17:00, according to KTH's guidelines on the organization and planning of the academic year. The deadline for submissions should be 19:00.
