Topic: Introductions

In Period 1 we will introduce ourselves to one another, compare experiences, and share advice. Your seminar group will consist of both Year 1 and Year 2 students from the Machine Learning programme.

The Tasks:

  1. Write an essay (400-600 words) and upload it to Canvas. 
  2. Read the essays from your other group members' essays.

  3. Attend your group's seminar time and take part in discussions.

Essay Instructions

Write a 1 page (400-600 word) essay on the subject below. Include your full name, year and - if you like - a photo of yourself in the essay; this will make it easier to search for fellow students, for group works etc.

Year 1 students only

Describe your educational background, and - if you want to - something about yourself. Why did you apply to the ML program at KTH, and what are your expectations?

Year 2 students only

Describe your experiences from the first year at the ML program at KTH. What advice would you like to give to the Year 1 students?

 

Submission Deadline

Please upload your essays at least 2 days before your scheduled seminar so that your other group members can read them.

Reading essays from other group members 

Please read the essays from the other group members and be ready to ask questions. 

I cannot attend the seminar. What should I do?

If you are unable to attend the seminar, send an email to your seminar leader. You will then write a second 2 page (800-1200 word) essay on one of the following topics:

  • You reflect over the other group members' essays.
  • If you are on an exchange please describe your thoughts on the exchange so far (the university, the courses etc.). Think of this as giving the students information about whether this would be a good university for a good exchange for them.
  • If you are completing a thesis project, describe how you found the project, the work environment and how the work compares to your expectations etc?
