Online presentations are a bit more complicated than on-campus ones. You have to set up ensuring that you have a stable network connection, working camera (not just not broken, but enabled and working with zoom), microphone, and quiet environment. Then during the presentation, you simultaneously keep track of the camera, mute status, recording status, different windows in zoom, with screen sharing, participants, chat, breakout rooms, any external tools (canvas pages, mentimeter, google docs, websites, etc.). Many of these tasks are in addition to what you would do in a room with others; you still have to keep track of time and, last but not least, what you are actually talking about and how you talk about it. When many participants' cameras are off, you lose the feedback channel of facial expression, showing whether the audience is following along, taking in information, have doubts or problems understanding, or have checked out. One of you will be made host during the seminar you present, let us know who that should be and practice giving permission to record so that you don't have to look for how that works during the session.
This assignment is to practice a presentation session, including how you handle the class discussion. You will get the contact information for the other group presenting on the same day, so you can coordinate your practice to have more people in the audience to practice the discussion setup. Record some of your practice and upload (or link to) a short video showing some slides and speaker, handing over to another speaker.
The default is that your presentation takes place with all the presenters online separately. If you'd like to use the seminar room equipped for hybrid teaching and present from there, contact Sonja.
