2) Give a technical description of an EU sanitary landfill for municipal solid waste. (half to one page) (3 points)

3) Name and describe 4 treatment processes for on-site leachate treatment. (half page) (1 point)

Part 3 (4 points)

3) Developing countries often lack a proper waste management. Household waste is dumped and/or burned out in the streets or on very simple dumping places.

• What are the problems when implementing the European/US landfill technique in a developing country? Discuss these problems - that is, not problems in general but the implementation of these techniques under the circumstances in developing countries.
• Motivate your standpoints and base your discussion on facts.
• The discussion should include technical as well as social aspects of the problems.
• The discussion should be one to one and half page long.

Formality, language and referencing style (1 point)

One point is given for good structure of the submitted report, quality of language, referencing style, handling of citations, and quality of references.

0 – 4 = Fail, possibility to re-submit assignment by end of the course, to get at best a Pass

5 – 7 = Pass

8 – 10 = Pass with distinction
