Reflection seminar in November 2020
Due to the new directives from the government and FHM, all prosamm seminars in period 2 will be Zoom seminars. The former alternative Zoom seminars have been cancelled. The date and time for the seminars of groups 6 and 22 have been changed.
Here you find instructions for how to prepare for the seminar and the group schedule of the seminar. Before the seminar, you also need to write a reflection document and read and comment on other group members' reflection documents.
Preparations for the reflection
The second intended learning outcome of DD2300 is "compare different workplaces and professions relevant to computer scientists". The third intended learning outcome is "reflect in a deeper way over different topics relevant for the professional role, such as channels to find interesting jobs, internationalization, the future for computer science in the working life, multicultural workplaces and ethical responsibility".
- Make a study visit.
- Investigate, using only public sources, how the company you visited is recruiting computer scientists. Is the company advertising in newspapers? Advertising on its web site? Visiting Armada or D-dagen? In some other way?
- Check the KTH web pages about career support (på svenska karriärstöd).
- Read the short piece "Has your organisation turned into a monoculture? Links to an external site." by Alf Rehn, Professor of Innovation, Design, and Management at the University of Southern Denmark Links to an external site..
- Watch the short talk "How diversity makes teams more innovative Links to an external site." (10m58s) by Rocío Lorenzo.
- Skim through the "Summary of Population Statistics 1960-2019 Links to an external site." by Statistics Sweden.
- Read "13 benefits and challenges of cultural diversity in the workplace Links to an external site." by Katie Reynolds.
- Read "Essential skills to succeed in a multicultural workplace Links to an external site." by Anna Calvi and Mirjam Hauck, Lecturers in Modern Languages at The Open University.
- Do the EECS Code of Honour quiz, if you have not done it yet in this semester. It is mandatory to do it and get the full 15 quiz points.
- Do the Choice of track quiz to inform the prosamm course coordinator about your choice of track and subtrack. This will only be used to create the prosamm groups for the spring 2021. Do the quiz regardless if you are studying in the first och second year of the master's programme.
If you missed the study visit
If you missed the study visit you will need to do the following extra preparation for the seminar.
- There are several business associations relevant to masters of computer science. Such organizations could either have computer science companies or computer scientists as members. Find one (relevant) business association organizing companies (branschorganisation) and one organizing people. Look up the web sites of these associations and find some information about them. Then use them instead of the company, when you write your reflection. The reflection should be at least 700 words.
Group schedule
Find your group number in the table below and look up when and where your seminar will be. The seminar is about 50 minutes, and it is important to be on time. Notice the odd starting times (10 minutes past)!
The seminar will be a walking seminar, starting from the meeting place.
If you cannot participate in the walking seminar, for example because you are sick or belong to a risk group and can not get to Campus in a safe way, a Zoom seminar is offered as an alternative, see below.
All meeting places are outdoors, close to the Main building (D and E buildings).
Here is a map showing the addresses. The Main building is at the lower right corner of the map.
Alternative seminars in Zoom
If you cannot participate in the walking seminar, for example because you are sick or belong to a risk group and can not get to Campus in a safe way, a Zoom seminar is offered as an alternative.
