Module 3: Introduction

Welcome to Module 3, Digital Learning activities

If we consider the idea constructive alignment for course design, we see that learning activities are the things the students should do in order to reach the learning outcomes. What limits those activities are basically you and your students´ imagination and of course the resources you have available. The activities should however also guide the student towards reaching the learning outcomes. In this module we focus on educational video and digital meetings as containers for learning activities. We use the word “containers” here, since both educational videos and digital meetings are a learning facility, just like a regular campus classroom. So just as the campus classroom, educational video, and digital meetings can be filled with a considerable variation of activities.

In previous course offerings, the course participants have had the option to choose between either follow a educational video track or a digital meeting track. But for this course offering we will include both and have therefore extended this module to three meetings.

The assignment

The assignment will consist of first creating a (short) educational video (with content from a course that you are teaching - or would like to teach). The second part of the assignment is to design a digital meeting, which include making a formal lesson plan with student interactions, instructions, use of technology, etc. One of the key points of the assignment is how you combine these containers for learning activities so that they enhance student learning.

Your creations should then be shared in the participant Sandbox course room in Canvas, the same place as for module 2. In addition, you should reflect on your constructed activities using the course material and post it as an assignment in the regular Canvas course room.

Before submitting the assignment, you will be able to receive feedback on your drafts from the guests for this module and from other course participants.

There will be an oral peer-review session in this module, so after submitting your assignment, you will review two other submissions and provide verbal feedback on them.

The guests for this module

We do also have guests also for this module. Hannes Hagstrand and Kamilla Andersson, from the unit for Digital Learning will visit the first meeting that is focusing on educational video. For the second meeting we will be visited by Per Olsson and Björn Ström, where we will focus on digital meetings.
