Module 1: Introduction

As revealed by the title, this module consists of an introduction to the course and the area of digital learning. The primary purpose of the module is to establish a common ground for the course and set a point of departure so that we can start our journey together towards becoming more skillful when it comes to online and blended learning.

First seminar of the module

The first seminar will be on Friday, August 30, from 9-12 on Zoom. Note that we will start at 09 am sharp, i.e. no academic quarter. The content of that meeting will be similar to any first meeting of a KTH course going through all the formalities etc. Then we will go on and emphasize on you getting to know each other. You will be divided you into smaller study groups that we will keep throughout the course for discussion, group work and so on.

Material for this module

The material for this module consists of a blog post by a Canadian organization called Contact North that set the stage for where we are with digital learning right now. After that, we have collected the local steering documents from KTH regarding digital learning that we want you to read. Finally, this module consists of some parts of the educational material that KTH has for e-learning.

Assignment

For the assignment you are expected to share how you perceive digital learning, share your thoughts on the readings, and your expectations for the course. There will also be a short peer-review session with feedback on each others texts.

Second seminar of the module

The second seminar for this module, on September 14, will be a face-to-face meeting on campus Valhallavägen with the option to join virtually on Zoom if you can’t participate in person. For this seminar, several colleagues at KTH who are involved in the digitalization of education at KTH will share their thoughts on the digital transformation of education at KTH in 2024.
