Content of the Final Thesis

To develop the content of the thesis, you start with writing a scientific article about your work.

Start by selecting a target journal that aligns with your research area, and carefully review its scope, guidelines, and formatting requirements. Most scientific articles follow the IMRaD structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

In the Introduction, outline the research problem, objectives, and significance while briefly reviewing relevant literature. The Methods section should clearly describe how the study was conducted, including the experimental design, materials, and tools used. In the Results, present your findings using text, tables, and figures, but avoid interpretation. The Discussion is where you interpret your results, compare them with existing literature, and address implications, limitations, and future research. Conclude by summarizing the main findings and their importance.

Write a concise abstract summarizing the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions of the study. Create a clear and informative title, and choose keywords to make your work discoverable in academic databases. Use a consistent citation style, and include all referenced sources in your bibliography.

Finally, edit and proofread thoroughly to ensure clarity and adherence to journal guidelines.

Structure of the Final Thesis

You begin your work with the standard front matter, which includes the cover, title page, abstracts in both English and Swedish, acknowledgments, table of contents, and lists of figures, tables, and abbreviations. This section establishes the framework for your thesis and ensures proper organization.

Following the front matter, you write a comprehensive summary of your work. This summary includes sections such as the Introduction, Background, Research Methodology, Summary of the Article, and Fulfillment of Learning Outcomes. In these sections, you have the opportunity to expand from the more specific details presented in the article to broader interpretations or additional observations made during the research process.
