Generative AI tools are powerful instruments that, when used appropriately, can help you learn more effectively. Do not use AI if it reduces your own learning. Always check the assignment instructions for if and how generative AI may be used. Do not rely on AI-generated text or code to be accurate. The purpose of allowing generative AI in course work is to make assignments more authentic, that is, more similar to tasks you may encounter in professional life.

Permitted use of generative AI

General instructions:

Throughout the course, you are welcome to use generative AI for graded assignments without the need to report it for the following purposes: typesetting with LaTeX, language editing, requesting explanations, or generating practice problems.

Other uses of generative AI in graded assignments are described below:

Small home assignments: do not use Generative AI. Submissions have to be hand written to decrease the chance of generating or copying answers.
Large home assignments: Generative AI can be used according to the general instructions.
Project: Generative AI can be used according to the general instructions.
Restrictions: It is not permitted to directly paste AI-generated text into your submission.
Final exam: Generative AI may not be used at all.

Note: Always critically evaluate material produced by generative AI. As a student, you are fully responsible for all submitted material and must be able to explain and defend it entirely without the support of generative AI.

Disclosure of AI use

To ensure academic transparency, you must report whether and how generative AI has been used in your examinable work. Reporting should be done as follows: For each instance of AI use (excluding typesetting and language editing), you must provide a written description of which AI tool you used and what prompt you entered. This should be included with your submission or shown to the lab assistant. For the mastery tests, the entire chat must be submitted — see the assignment instructions.

Note: AI-generated references or quotations must be verified to ensure they are accurate and relevant.

Disciplinary actions for unauthorized use of AI

All submitted work must be your own. Even when using generative AI as a support, the reasoning and conclusions must be entirely your own. Unauthorized use of generative AI in examinable components is considered an attempt to deceive and may result in disciplinary action. Therefore, make sure to follow the information on this page and the specifications provided in each assignment, and report your use of generative AI.
