Is Essence a good guidance for less experienced teams?

You have now had a first opportunity to apply a part of Essence/SEMAT to your work.

As Paul McMahon directly states, Essence is designed for software engineers who have some degree of experiences. It is primarily an analysis tool rather than guidance.

What are your thoughts on this? Do the checklists work for you, or would a more prescriptive way be better?
