10. Asking how somebody is feeling

Depending on the intonation, questions like ”hur är det?” och ”hur mår du?” (how are you?) can be understood as polite expressions that do not need an honest answer (just answer: I’m fine!).

Questions

Hur är det? (How are you?)

Hur är det med dig? (How are you feeling?)

Hur mår du? (How are you feeling?)

Examples of answers

Tack, bra!/Det är bra! (Fine, thanks. I’m good.)

Tack, så där! (So-so, thanks.)

Jag mår bra. (I’m fine.)

Jag mår dåligt. (I’m bad.)

Jag är sjuk. (I’m sick.)

Jag är förkyld. (I have a cold.)

Jag har 39 graders feber. (I have a 39 degree fever.)

Jag har hosta. (I have a cough)

Jag har huvudvärk. (I have a headache.)

Jag mår illa. (I feel sick.)

Jag har ont i halsen. (My throat hurts.)

Jag har ont i magen. (My stomach hurts.)

Jag har influensa. (I have the flu.)

Jag är hungrig. (I’m hungry.)

Jag är mätt. (I’m full.)
