There are many foreign students in Sweden. At university, there are student unions that can help new students with practical matters. Student unions, formed to represent the social and academic interests of their members, may be found at every university and university college in Sweden. Membership in these unions are voluntary. Swedish student unions have traditionally played an important role in university life. Membership fees have enabled unions to work for improving conditions for students.
