Abstract - Jonas Löwgren
There is great potential in our use of AI and automation for professional, personal and societal purposes. But there are equally great challenges in designing the collaboration between people and automation – in order to realize the potential, it is essential that the joint performance of human and automated agent is better than that of either part on its own.
This talk provides an overview of some key issues in the design of human-automation collaboration, including human factors such as vigilance, attention and out-of-loop phenomena; key experiential qualities of interactive automation such as transparency and accountability; the interaction granularity of initiative sharing; the pros and cons of anthropomorphic agents.
The aim of the talk is mainly to raise awareness and stimulate further study and engagement with the challenges of designing human-automation collaboration.
