Assessing research activities
Most information provided in this course focus on the treatment of human participants. This is a very important part, but not the only important part of what good research practice entails. Fredrik Karlsson (ethics officer) provides an overview to show some more width.
The focus on human participants within research ethics is understandable while they may be invited to willingly take risks in activities with uncertain outcomes they have little chance to completely understand and without significant personal gain. In comparison, relevant risks for staff or the environment are largely handled by other processes and regulations that are somewhat easier to standardize and control. Fredrik Karlsson (ethics officer) provides a brief overview of the most important aspects to consider when you plan to invite people to participate in your research.
If you plan for international exchanges, there are further aspects both ethical and legal to consider. Fredrik Karlsson (ethics officer) gives an overview.
Please find some tools that may help in preparing for the ethics aspects of your project at the KTH Intranet.
* Take initiative and invite to dialogue according to your academic role. Assess your research concerning both risks and relations. Focus on human participants, but do not reduce the case to that. *
Next, you will find some more specifics on identifying, articulating and managing problematic risks and relations.
