1.4 - READ and WRITE QPU Instructions
The lecture slides are available here Download here.
In this lecture, I introduce two crucial - and rather different from what we have seen so far, QPU instructions. The READ (also measurement) and WRITE QPU instructions.
The READ operation is nothing more than the formal expression of a quantum system's readout or measurement process. Our measurement will be only I0> or I1> in one qubit system. READ is unique because it is the only QPU instruction set that returns a random result according to a distribution of probabilities. The WRITE operation allows us to initialize a QPU register before we operate on it. This is a deterministic process. WRITE operation does not allow us to prepare a qubit in an arbitrary superposition with arbitrary magnitude and relative phase. We can write the classical state ∣0⟩ or state ∣1⟩
