Lecture 4 Semiconductor Devices (diode basics)

From this lecture we start to explore two families of semiconductor devices.

pn-junctions (diodes), two-terminal devices, often used standalone, i.e. not integrated for various application

transistors (mosfets), three/four-terminal devices main for integrated circuits

We will still use some of the physics from Chapter 1 & 2 but we will have focus on applications such as:

  • light emitting diodes (LEDs)
  • solar cells

The next upcoming lectures are also needed to prepare for the laboratory exercise.
