Exam
Exam information for HT 2023:
The examination in the course consists of:
+ Homework (with peer review) and seminars, given an overall grade of P/F.
+ An essay assignment at the end of the course, graded F, Fx, E, D, C, B or A, resulting in an Essay grade.
+ A written (and possibly oral) exam consisting of several parts:
- 5 online quizzes in Canvas during the course for the grade E. Passing all quizzes is sufficient for Exam grade E.
- This grade can be raised in an online final quiz/exam for grades E-C..
This exam is not mandatory, but necessary if you would like to raise your exam grade. - Students with grade C on the written exam can choose to take an oral exam with the course examiner to possibly
raise the grade to A or B. The oral exam takes approximately 15-20 minutes, and is based on a discussion of a single exam
question that is revealed to the student some time before for preparation.
The online quizzes have a time limit of 20 minutes (30 minutes for funka students) and will be available to take at any time between 9.00 and 17.00 the day they are scheduled. The quizzes must be done without aid from course material or other sources, and cannot be redone.
The quizzes are scheduled as follows:
Quiz 1: Sep 26
Quiz 2: Oct 31
Quiz 3: Nov 14
Quiz 4: Nov 28
Quiz 5: Dec 12
The first quiz is mainly based on material from lectures 1 and 2. The following quizzes are in the same way primarily based on material from lecture 3+4 and so on, but may also include material from earlier lectures or seminars.
All quizzes must be passed. There will be one make-up quiz for each quiz. The make-up quizzes will be scheduled Oct 16 (quiz 1) and Dec 19 (quiz 2-5).
The online quiz/exam for grades C-E is voluntary. It can done online at any time from Dec 18 9:00 to Dec 19 at 17:00, and have a time limit of 3 hours. It will consist of a small number of essay questions, and the course literature including lecture notes will be allowed as aid (no other aid is allowed).
Both the Exam grade and the Essay grade (see Essay page) must be a passing grade (E or higher) to pass the course.
The final grade is then the mean of the Exam grade and the Essay grade, rounded up.
