Optical Fiber lab

This lab will be performed remotely.

Each lab group needs to book a time slot at a Zoom meeting with the teacher (see Info about the lab booking). Attending the meeting is obligatory for all group members.

Don't be late! Each group will only have 15 minutes with the teacher.

Before the meeting, one has to:

  1. Read the lab instructions.
  2. Study recording of the introduction lecture "Introduction to Fiber-Optical Communication" (see below).
  3. Review the corresponding textbook chapters, if needed.
  4. Watch the lab videos (see below).
  5. Perform all necessary calculations and prepare all necessary results and graphs. Fill in the lab report template properly.

To get the data for the calculations, open this zip file and find the set of the data according to your lab group number.

At the meeting, you should be able to show your results to the teacher (see "Evaluation" below). You may also ask the teacher any questions about the lab. Learn in advance how to share your screen in Zoom!

Evaluation:

Your understanding of the lab content, as well as your lab report (one report per group) will be evaluated during the 15-min Zoom meeting with the teacher. You will get PASS for the lab immediately if the evaluation comes out positively. If the teacher thinks your report is not satisfactory, you will be given one week after the meeting to finish the report. You submit then your report in Canvas.
