Guidelines
The master thesis project is quite different from taking an ordinary course. Each project is different and the expectations from students, project providers and examiner have to be considered. Therefore, it is important to find a common ground and agree on a plan for the project. We have summarized a number ot general tips and guidelines below.
Tips
- Make a time plan for your thesis work. Write down a timeline with the different parts of the thesis.
- In the beginning it is important to focus on the mathematical model and the tools. Always start with as simple model as possible but that is still relevant to the question at hand. Understand this case in detail. If you don't understand the easy cases you will not understand the more advanced cases.
- When reading papers, write down (short) summaries of the papers. Write down the details that you think are useful for the report right away. In a month or two you will have a hard time recollecting the details.
- Make sure to set aside enough time for the writing. It takes a lot of time and focus (dedicate at least 1-2 months for this).
- Remember that you are in charge of the project.
- Send a mail two days before each meeting with the current version of the report. Describe in short what you want to discuss during the meeting (from meeting three and on). Otherwise it can be difficult to give good feedback.
