Navigating Canvas

Canvas can be a scary place. Too many things to click on, and too much to navigate through. But let's start by talking about the Global Navigation Menu.

Global Navigation Menu

Canvas displays a Global Navigation Menu that gives you direct access to your courses and other areas of Canvas. Essentially, it is an easy way to access all the different areas within your Canvas!

 You may see the Global Navigation Menu with the name under each link unnamed (1)-1.jpg or you may see it in collapsed form unnamed-1.jpg

You can easily change from one way of viewing it to another by clicking on the arrow at the bottom of the Global Navigation Menu. 

Global Navigation Links

The areas of Canvas that you can access from this menu are:

  • Account: from this link you can modify your user settings, specify your notification preferences, upload personal files, manage ePortfolios, and log out of Canvas 
  • Dashboard: from this link you can go back to the Canvas Dashboard at any time 
  • Courses: from this link you can quickly access your favorite courses and have access to a link to view all your courses 
  • Groups: from this link you can access any groups in which you are enrolled in, or view a list of all your groups
  • Calendar: from this link you can view your personal calendar and course calendars 
  • Inbox: from this link you can view conversations and send emails to your instructors and peers within Canvas
  • Help: from this link you can access help resources for your institution
