A quick overview of the Dashboard

What is the Canvas Dashboard?

When you log in to Canvas, the first thing you see is the Dashboard. It provides an overview of your current courses.

If your view is set to Card View (more on Dashboard Views below), each "card" represents a course, and if you click on the box you will go to the specific course. You can change the order of the course cards by dragging-and-dropping them in the order you want.

[1] shows that a new announcement has been sent in the specific course, while [2] shows that there is a new discussion message in the specific course.

You can quickly get an overview of assignments through the Dashboard.

The "To Do" list [3] shows assignments and quizzes that are open for submission, while [4] shows upcoming assignments and quizzes.

When a submission has been graded, the most recent grading and feedback will be shown in [5]. 

 

Different Views in Canvas Dashboard?

You may be able to select from three different viewing options.

• Card View displays a course card for each of your favorite courses, with clickable icons for [A] Announcements, [B] Assignments, [C] Discussions, and [D] Files.
• List View displays all course To Do items in an agenda view to help you easily manage tasks across all of your courses.

Recent Activity View, which displays a stream of recent notifications from all your courses, including announcements, conversations, assignments, discussions, and peer reviews.    

How do I select the courses to be shown in the Dashboard?

Begin by clicking on All Courses under Courses in the global navigation menu.

     

You now have an overview on all your courses, here you have the option to check or uncheck a course from the dashboard by pressing the star infront of the course name. A filled star presents the course on the dashboard while a unfilled star causes the course to dissapear from the dashboard.
