Announcement: PCB exercise and Q&A

Putting this here so that it should be visible to everyone, sorry about the confusion (this was sent out yesterday, on thursday)....

Hello everyone!

It's good to see that so many have finished the soldering excercise. There's still a few left but there's still plenty of time so come in and do it when you can.

The second (and last) part of the exercise will be to recreate the circuit that you soldered as your own PCB design.
We will be using KiCad for this since it works on most platforms, is free and open source, and is quite powerful.

As a start I would like you to download and install KiCad from here: https://kicad-pcb.org/

As a reminder this is the circuit that you will be laying out:

Circuit for the assignment

For a primer on PCB design I've written the following document which will get you up to speed on some of the terminology and such for PCB design. It's still a bit rough around the edges but contains most of the things I would have found useful when I started.

Download HI2032-PCBs.pdf

- PCB design basics

This document doesn't have any information on how to use KiCad specifically so to complement the document I will upload a video tutorial on exactly how to use KiCad to create the circuit in the assignment. This video should come up sometime in the evening today so that you can view it before or during the Q&A. I will put up an announcement and update the front page when it's online.

Finally on the Q&A scheduled tomorrow I will be available to answer questions if you get stuck with the assignment, or if you have any questions on PCB design in general. The Q&A will take place on the following zoom link: https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/67267589601 Links to an external site.

It's good if you have already installed KiCad before the Q&A so that you can get started right away.
