All about seminars
At each seminar class, active work is conducted with seminar assignments. In particular, solutions to the homework assignments are discussed (see below). The seminars are meetings in the room, on Campus.
Homework assignments
For each seminar there is a list of homework problems, solutions of which are to be submitted before the seminar. The homework problems will be posted here . It also states there when the solutions to homework problems must be submitted at the latest. The deadline applies to all students, including re-registered ones.
The solutions must be well motivated and clearly written. Even a person who is not familiar with the problem in advance, should be able to easily read and understand your solutions. Draw figures, explain all the terms that are introduced, use your English language to explain how you reason.
It is allowed to discuss with others when you solve the problems, but it is not allowed to write off a solution or submit a solution that you have not worked with yourself, it is considered cheating to submit such solutions.
The assignments are submitted via Canvas (as a PDF file; submit all assignments in ONE file) here . Please note that you must be course registered to be able to submit your solutions. See also the rules for re-registered below. Solutions submitted via email will not be considered.
Information on how to submit a handwritten text in Canvas can be found here.
Assessment
Of the submitted solutions to homework problems, ONE problem is graded (the same problem for all students). You will get a point for that seminar if the selected problem is completely and correctly solved. You do not have to attend the seminar class to be approved.
For a point on a homework problem , it is required that the solution is well presented and easy
to follow. This means that the solutions must be neatly written in handwriting
which is easy to read. It also means that introduced designations must be defined, that it
the logical structure is clearly described in words or symbols and that the reasoning is well motivated and clearly explained. All steps in all calculations must be displayed and must be easy to follow. Solutions and answers without correct, detailed and clear justifications in all steps receive
no point. If we suspect cheating, all students involved get no points without any further discussion.
Bonus points
Each approved seminar gives a bonus point to the exam. You can get a maximum of 6 such bonus points. To the number of points obtained on problem 1 on the exam, the bonus points are added, up to a maximum of 6 points. The point sum on problem 1 on the exam can thus be a maximum of 6 points, bonus points included.
Validity of bonus points
The bonus points are valid throughout the academic year (from August to the end of July)
Re-registered students
If you do not take the course for the first time, you will be counted as re-registered. You can only be admitted to the evening seminars (for re-registered) once per academic year. The format of the seminars (see above) is the same for all students, even re-registered.
Registration times for evening seminars for re-registered students in 20/21.
Period 2: Registration time 26 Oct - 29 Oct.
If you submit assignments as re-registered during a period when you have not been admitted to the seminars, any results obtained then will not be included in the bonus.
