Quizzes - General Information
There will be four short in-class quizzes (15 minutes) on material from the lectures. These will be about historical mathematicians, their works, and their life. The quizzes can give you points to part A of the assessment. The questions will usually require one- or two-sentence answers.
I will never require you to learn exact dates or long lists of names. You should, however, know the names of the mathematicians we talked about in class, the contributions we talked about, and know roughly where and when they lived.
You will take the quizzes online on canvas. In order to create an environment that makes cheating at least somewhat inconvenient, you must have your webcam and microphone on during the entire quiz. I want to see your computer screen, work surface, and yourself through your webcam. If you do not have a detachable webcam that you can position in this way, use zoom on your phone or other device, pointing its camera suitably, while working on the computer. If you cannot create such a setup, please contact me at least 3 workdays before the scheduled quiz so we can try and sort out a solution.
