Finding and Becoming and Opponent

When am I eligible to become an opponent?

In order to help students finishing up their degree projects, we prioritise opponent candidates that already have presented their own thesis or are about to present. Only if no other opponent candidate who already has presented is available, you are allowed to serve as opponent without having presented your own thesis.

Where do I sign up to become an opponent, and where do I find opponent candidates for my own presentation?

We use the following excel sheet on KTH's OneDrive to keep lists of available opponent candidates and available opposition opportunities (KTH login is required). By signing up here, you agree that fellow students contact you to become your opponent or to recruit you as an opponent. It is therefore recommended that you only use your KTH email adress:

When signing up and handling the lists, please respect the following:

  • When indicating your availability as opponent, please add your contact information and the (planned) date of your presentation. You can also state relevant topics, but avoid to be too narrow.
  • When selecting an opponent for your presentation, please make sure to select a candidate that has already presented and has aggregated a long waiting time (i.e., check when the candidate has presented), and avoid to become your opponent's opponent.
  • Once you have found an opponent / an opportunity to act as opponent, remove yourself from the list.

Scheduling the Final Presentation

Once you get clearance from your supervisor and examiner to present, use the opponent sign-up list above to find an opponent. You, your examiner, and your opponent need then to agree on a presentation date and time (i.e., there are no specific deadlines; the availability of the examiner is the only limitation). The examiner needs to provide you with either a meeting link for the virtual meeting or book the room for the physical meeting. Once date, time, and location for the presentation are set, submit the presentation details by using the following KTH form, and we will announce the presentation in the Canvas calendar:

Note that your examiner is also welcome to advertise the presentation directly in the Canvas calendar as instructed in the assignment for Final Presentation.

When and where has the opposition report to be submitted?

Please upload the opposition report before the presentation in Canvas using the assignment Opposition report.

Please after the presentation, send the opposition report to the presenter.

Where can I find upcoming presentations?

All presentations are announced in the Canvas calendar, and you can find upcoming presentations in the Course Syllabus.
