Assignment 1. Before the course, please prepare the following:

-Explore your personal views about learning and the future of learning, by discussing with your friends. Upload a written statement with 10 sentences to KTH Social before 13 February.

-Participate in a Mediated Crit on 13-14 February, see below.

-Identify 4 central concepts relating to ‘Experiencing Mediated Presence’, from the course literature, that you bring with you to the session 17-18 February.

2-12 February

Optional: Study tour to Israel and Jordan, (see separate agenda).

Departure 2 February

Students who will not visit Israel will be invited to attend separate activities.

Thursday 13 and Friday 14 February

14.00-17.00 KTH R1 Experimental Performance Space & Presence Lab, Drottning Kristinas väg 51.

Mediated review session with UIUC Architecture students who have worked on urban projects in Chicago. You are remote guest critics and provide feedback.

Friday 14 February

You will be contacted and interviewed about your experience of mediated presence, by media technology students who designed the shared mediated spaces.

Monday 17 February, 9-17

Formal Course introduction and kick-off, Garnisonen, Linnégatan 87F

9.00-10.00 Presentation of the course theme and course layout. (Charlie, Ori, Elsa)

10.00-12.30 The Future of Learning, Professor Rolf Hughes, Head of Research, Stockholm University of the Arts.

Visit around the premises (=site no 1).

13.30-17.00 Visit to the two other sites: (2) KTH Library and (3) the former Norra Latin school yard, Norra Bantorget.

13.30 We meet in Sydöstra Galleriet, KTH Library. Introduction talk by the Dean and Prefect of the ECE School: Mats Herder & Henrik Svensson: Our vision about the future of KTH Library.

Walk around the premises.

Tuesday 18 February 9-11

Inspiration Lecture: Introducing Mediating Presence & the Future of Learning (Charlie & Leif Handberg)

18-19 February: Research Labs – WebRTC workshops & creative programming / information design workshops with KTH Media Technology students & KTH Architecture students and the presence research group

Workshop format: After a general introduction, 6 groups of students carry out small exercises/labs together (approx. 6 MT students+3 Arch students in each)

Attend a mediated seminar on the topic Trust and Mediating Justice (Caroline Nevejan, TU Delft). Venue to be decided.

or a lecture by Harold Nefs, TU Delft, Interactive Intelligence Group, lecture on ‘Stereopsis and picture perception’. Venue B2.

24 February 9-16

‘Coffee Lab’ at KTH R1. Design a mediated coffee moment, create a mediated space for informal social interaction (team work). Venue: KTH R1.

Thursday 28 February 13-17

Pin-up. Individual presentation based on your selected site. Represent in physical form, some aspect(s) of the future of learning: an expression of your vision about the future, in terms of learning. Where will it take place? Who will it affect? This is a conceptual hand-in.

Midcrit: Presentation of your interpretation of the chosen “site”, with a written programme and concept sketches/model/digital or physical. Any other media also fine.

Guest critics: Teachers and students from UIUC present at KTH.

Presentation material to be discussed. Use any appropriate media to represent your proposal.
