Course Responsible

All degree project courses at the Department of Intelligent systems (see list on the start page) are handled by Ragnar Thobaben. If you have questions regarding your degree project, please contact Ragnar by sending an email to exjobb-is@eecs.kth.se.

Eligibility, Registration, and Exemption

Please check the program specific information since minor details are varying from program to program.

Project Proposal

Prepare a project proposal following the EECS Template for Degree Project Proposal.

The purpose of the project proposal is to provide prospective examiners, the PA, and the course responsible with all information that is required to judge whether or not a project idea is appropriate.

Please keep in mind that the project idea needs to be suitable in order to guarantee that all course goals and program goals are accomplished at the end of the project. Check the links to the course syllabus and program syllabus for your program for further information.

Examiner and Supervisor

Every degree project has to have an examiner and a supervisor at KTH. The examiner is a teacher who is listed on the course code as an examiner. The examiner is responsible for:

Assuring the quality of the degree project
Approving (or rejecting) the project proposal
Assigning the supervisor
All grading tasks

The supervisor at KTH is the main contact point during the runtime of the project and responsible for the academic supervision (e.g., overseeing the progress towards the course goals, providing feedback on the report draft and draft presentation). The supervisor can be, e.g., a teacher, a PhD student, a postdoc, or researcher. If the KTH supervisor is also the project owner, the responsibilities also include the technical supervision.

For projects outside KTH, a qualified supervisor at the company, research institute, or host university is required who is responsible for the technical supervision.

Finding an Examiner and Supervisor

Identify appropriate examiners on the "List of Examiners and Topics" for your program and contact them by sending your project proposal. Whether or not an examiner accepts your proposal is completely up to the examiner.

Note that you may propose a supervisor; however, please respect that the examiner decides on the supervisor, and please do not approach supervisors before the examiner has agreed.

Note as well that you can reach out to examiners while the decision on the eligibility check is pending.

Project Start

Please note that you are not allowed to start the project before it has been registered in Ladok. This is primarily in the interest of the student in order to avoid the situation that a student starts working on a project that never materializes (e.g., since the proposal is inappropriate or due to lack of examiners with appropriate background or interest).
