Cloud-Based Alerting System for IP-Telephony

Per-Johan Simon Jakobsson’s Master’s thesis on “Cloud-Based Alerting System for IP-Telephony: A prototype development”:

Today text telephones have become total conversation telephones: audio, video, timed text

He extended IP telephony to support relay control of alerting devices as a cloud-base service

[slide512] Per-Johan Simon Jakobsson, in his master's thesis, looked at cloud-based alerting system for IP telephoning. And he worked for the biggest company in Sweden doing text telephones. And they have nowadays become total conversation phones. So they support audio, video, and timed text. And he added the ability to control local relays so that now you could power on and off different devices. But one of the important things was, instead of having to rely on a computer locally, he wanted to put the control of all of that in the cloud. So now I can have an alerting service where someone, for instance, comes to the door and pushes the button beside the door. But if I'm deaf, can I hear the doorbell? No. What do I want to happen? I want it to flicker the lamp in the room where that I am, telling me that somebody is at the door. Or if I have my portable device with me, vibrate and send me a note on the screen that says somebody is at the door, and maybe even start streaming the video for the person that's there. And he said, we're not going to build all of this by having to install all of that software locally in the user's device. We're going to build it as a cloud-based service. And we just need a few small things, in particular, adding these relays to the device.
