Loss concealment
Loss concealment
There are various techniques for loss concealment (i.e., hiding losses), such as those used in the Robust Audio Tool (RAT):
Vicky J. Hardman, Martina Angela Sasse, Anna Watson, and Mark Handley, “Reliable Audio for use over the Internet”, in Proceedings or INET95, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept. 1995. [Hardman 1995]

[slide89] Now, Vicky Hardman, together with Martina Angela Sasse and others, did a whole set of tools, whose specialty was how do you hide these errors. And they were called RAT, University College London Robust Audio Tool. And Martina was a visitor here about 20 years ago, around the time this was actually happening. And the cool thing was, the first term I was here at KTH, we actually had streaming video from the classroom for the teleinformatics course, between here in Kista and the campus of Valhallavägen, and another place. And we were able to have a shared electronic whiteboard, video, audio, all of that, already running 25 years ago. This is old technology. Today we still don't regularly have that technology in use, which is unfortunate. But hopefully we'll change that.
