Observe proper academic ethics and properly cite your sources!

You will be searching & reading the literature in conjunction with your projects. Please make sure that you properly reference your sources in your report - keep in mind the KTH Ethics policies.

In particular:

  • If you use someone else’s words - they must be clearly indicated as a quotation (with a proper citation).
  • Note also that individual figures have their own copyrights, so it you are going to use a figure/picture/… from some other source, you need to both cite this source & have the copyright owner’s permission to use it.

[slide18] Now, remember to observe proper ethics. That means if you use someone else's words, they have to be in quotation marks. And you have to cite your source. And individual figures have their own copyright, so if you say, wow, that's a great figure, you either have to have the permission of the copyright owner to use it, or you need to make your own figure, and then you'll cite the source adapted from figure 5 of reference 14, for instance. That's perfectly okay, but you can't just cut and paste. If you do, you've violated the copyright, and if you don't cite the source of it, you have, of course, committed plagiarism.
