[slide10] The topics we're going to talk about. Not surprisingly, the session initiation protocol at the top of the list. And the real-time transport protocol. That's the protocol that's used to actually deliver the encoded audio, video, whatever media between the parties. We'll also talk about the real-time streaming protocol. So the result is that we can have pre-recorded media and play it, much like a remote video recorder system. SIP is based on the idea of a set of user agents and servers. And we'll talk about what these user agents are. We'll also talk about the roles of a location server, a redirect server, a proxy server, a registrar server, etc. We'll talk about something called the call processing language, CPL. And we'll talk about SIP Simple, which we'll see is the system that lets us register our interest in events happening and when the events occur, receiving the notification.
