citation key
The user's preferred unique citation key for an article, for example Maguire1983 is much easier to cite in LaTeX (as \cite{Maguire1983}) than DiVA's key diva2:479643 (with\cite{diva2:479643}). This it is desirable to maintain a mapping between the user's preferred keys and the underlying keys used by DiVA.
With regard to the citation key, Chris Putnam, bibutils's author, puts the citation key (when importing from BibTeX) into a MODS element (http://bibutils.refbase.org/mods_intro.html Links to an external site.):
<identifier type="citekey">C003</identifier>
So it would be possible to have this information retained in a local MODS file, and then use it when generating the BibTeX output.
