Getting started with the DOCX template

  1. Get either the English or Swedish DOCX template from 
  2. When you open the template, you will see a page similar to that shown below (this example shows the English template):

  3. To change the title you click on the File tab and will see the main properties of the file. One of these is "Title" if you click on it you can edit it. This field is highlighted in the image below: Title property
  4. To change other properties of the file, click on Properties and get the pulldown shown below: File->Info screen
  5. You can now click on Advanced properties and you will get a new popup menu - shown below: Advanced properties menu with General tab selected.
  6. You can click on the "Custom" table to view the custom properties:Advanced properties popup menu.
  7. You can resize the first column to make it easier to see the property names: Custom properties after resizing the first column
  8. For example, you can now click on the "Subtitle" and you will see this propetry and its value: Select the "Subtitle" property
  9. Simply type into the "Value" field to change the subtitle as shown below: After entering a new subtitle
  10. Click "OK"
  11. You can now go to the Home tab and select the subtitle field and push the F9 button on your keyboard - to update the field value and you will see the new subtitle: Use F9 to update the subtitle field
  12. You can update all of the relevant custom document properties - as described in the document Integrating_DOCX_cover_with_thesis_template Download Integrating_DOCX_cover_with_thesis_template (you can find a summary of all of the various custom document properties and their uses at Document properties)
  13. If you have updated many properties you can select the entire document with Control-A and then tyle F9 - and all of the fields will be updated.
  14. Back to writing in the document!

Note that to make the color cover it is necessary to run a program or use the templates shown at Templates for 1st and 2nd cycle theses - some templates
